Tech-infused tourism policing workshop concludes in Srinagar
Srinagar, Feb 27: In a significant step towards modernizing tourism security, the Jammu & Kashmir Police, in collaboration with Rashtriya Raksha University, successfully concluded a two-week intensive workshop on Tech-Infused Tourism Policing at the District Police Lines (DPL) in Srinagar.
The specialised training programme was designed to enhance the professional capabilities of police personnel in tackling emerging tourism-related security challenges through the integration of modern technological tools into day-to-day policing operations. With Jammu & Kashmir witnessing a steady rise in tourist footfall, the initiative aims to ensure a safe, secure, and technology-enabled environment for visitors.
The valedictory session was presided over by DIG Central Kashmir Range (CKR) Rajiv Pandey, in the presence of SSP Srinagar Dr. G.V. Sundeep Chakravarthy, and other senior officers. Addressing the participants, DIG CKR emphasized the growing importance of technology-driven policing, particularly in a tourism-centric region like Jammu & Kashmir. He described the workshop as a forward-looking initiative that aligns with the broader vision of building a tech-savvy, responsive, and citizen-friendly police force.
Highlighting the collaborative effort between Jammu & Kashmir Police and Rashtriya Raksha University, DIG Pandey termed the programme a progressive step toward strengthening institutional capacity and adapting to evolving security dynamics. He encouraged the participating officers to effectively implement the knowledge and skills acquired during the training in their respective field assignments.
The workshop covered a comprehensive range of subjects, including cyber awareness in tourism zones, smart surveillance systems, data-driven policing strategies, emergency response mechanisms, digital documentation processes, and technology-enabled tourist assistance systems. Emphasis was also laid on best practices in tourism policing to improve coordination, efficiency, and public engagement.
Experts and faculty members from Rashtriya Raksha University conducted interactive sessions, practical demonstrations, and scenario-based exercises, providing hands-on exposure to advanced tools and real-world simulations. The structured curriculum ensured that participants not only understood theoretical frameworks but also developed practical competencies in handling tourism-related contingencies.
During the closing ceremony, mementos were presented to the resource persons and faculty members from Rashtriya Raksha University as a token of appreciation for their valuable contribution and institutional support. Certificates of participation were also distributed among the police personnel who successfully completed the training programme.
The initiative reflects the continued commitment of Jammu & Kashmir Police toward modernization, innovation, and capacity building. By blending cutting-edge technology with traditional policing methods, the department aims to establish a robust and proactive tourism security framework, reinforcing public confidence and promoting Jammu & Kashmir as a safe and welcoming destination for travelers.
