Majority of the schools saw the students mostly of primary classes performing in various skits to acknowledge the services of the teachers and express their love for shaping their career.

Notably, all the schools and other higher educational institutions across India celebrate Teachers’ Day on September 5, to pay tribute to Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and all teachers for guiding and mentoring the students.

Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha also extended his greetings to the teachers on their special day.

“Greetings and warm wishes to all teachers on Teachers’ Day. I express my gratitude for their dedication to the growth of humanity. Tributes to the great educationist and former President, Dr S. Radhakrishnan Ji on his Janm-Jayanti. His life and works continue to inspire generations,” Manoj Sinha wrote on his X (Twitter) handle.

He said the teachers are the true architects of the nation and shape the destiny of our country. “A teacher plays many roles simultaneously by instilling creativity, curiosity, team-work, leadership qualities and civilisational values of harmony, brotherhood and compassion in our children,” he said.

The principal Secretary School Education Department (SED) Alok Kumar also extended his greetings to the teachers saying that the day is celebrated to acknowledge the contribution of mentors, who shape the future and inspire young minds.

“Thank you to all the teachers who dedicate themselves to nurturing knowledge and creativity. Your dedication makes a difference every day,” Alok Kumar said.

Talking to Greater Kashmir, the teachers from different schools said that the appreciation and recognition of students marked their day and made them feel special.

“Teachers’ day is always a special feeling. Being honoured by students makes it even more meaningful. The appreciation and recognition of students mean the world to us. We are proud to be considered ‘builders of the nation’ and it is a joy to be part of this community,” said Jasirah, a private school teacher working in Saint Joseph’s higher secondary school Baramulla.

Another teacher said that the joy and enthusiasm the students shared with the teachers was heartwarming.

“I wanted to thank every student for being my student and giving me so much love. The appreciation received was a call for me to recognise my responsibility as a mentor. My veneration in the society is because of my profession and teachers’ day celebrations gave me the urge to do more for my students,” said Gousia Mehraj, a government school teacher from Sopore.

Dr Rabia Naseem Moghal, a senior lecturer from Srinagar, said that the love and respect shown by students made all the teachers feel incredibly valued and appreciated.

“It reminded me of the positive impact I have had on their lives, filling my heart with pride and joy. Seeing their innocent and genuine smiles made me forget every challenge and troubling thought,” Dr Moghal said.

Another teacher from Baramulla said the Teachers’ Day is always significant, but what truly warms the heart is the love and appreciation the students show.

“When they take a moment to express their gratitude—through words, gestures, or small acts of kindness. It makes us feel deeply valued,” said Asima Jaan, a school teacher from Baramulla.

A day-long function was also organised by the Kashmir University’s Department of Education to celebrate the Teachers’ Day.

In her address, KU Vice Chancellor, Prof Nilofer Khan, emphasised the evolving challenges faced by teachers and the need for adaptability in today’s dynamic educational landscape.

“It is the teachers who push students to be their best, and after parents, teachers are the role models for students,” she said.

Registrar KU, Dr Naseer Iqbal in his address stressed the importance of mutual respect between teachers and students.

“Teachers need to be very competent and students must respect their teachers as they do their parents,” he said.
