Teacher faces inquiry as student injured in severe ‘beating’ in Bandipora
Bandipora, Nov 5: The Chief Education Officer Bandipora has launched an internal inquiry after parents of a student at Bandipora school alleged their child was severely beaten resulting in serious injuries to one of the eyes.
The inquiry comes after a formal complaint was lodged with the Station House Officer (SHO) and the Chief Education Officer (CEO) of Bandipora, urging an investigation into the headmaster’s conduct.
The complaint was launched by the parents of the student against the headmaster of the Primary School Govt PS Koli Mohalla, Athwatoo.
Reyaz Ahmad Lone, the father of the child, alleged in the complaint that the headmaster of primary school struck his child with a stick near his eye.
The complaint further states the teacher instructed him to tell his family that the injury occurred because of the fall in the school washroom. The complaint further alleged the controversial nature of the teacher who, it said, often resorts to violence as corporal punishment against students of primary level.
The complaint makes further allegations of dual employment and lack of interest in teaching students. The local police have registered a (FIR No. 63/2024) under sections 115(2) and 351(2) of (BNS).
Furthermore, CEO Bandipora has ordered an investigation over “complaint regarding corporal punishment at Govt PS Koli Mohalla, Athwatoo and constitution of enquiry committee there of.”
“In view of the complaint filed by Mr. Reyaz Ahmad Lone, R/o Koli Mohalla Athwatoo addressed to the Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, regarding alleged corporal punishment of the student at PS Koli Mohalla, an enquiry committee of officers was constituted to probe into the matter and to establish the facts,” reads the order.
“The committee shall hear both the parties and submit concert findings to this office within 2 days positively for further course of action,” the order states further.
The inquiry committee consists of Mahboob Ahmad Khan, Principal HSS Hajin, Ab Rashid Lone, Principal, NM, BHSS Bandipora, Mohd Iqbal Magrey, Sr. Lecturer, HSS Mantrigam. The order notes the “matter as most urgent.”
