Tarun Chugh slams AAP government over Abohar murder, demands NIA probe
Chandigarh, Jul 7: BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh has strongly criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab following the daylight murder of a prominent businessman in Abohar, calling it evidence of a “complete collapse” of law and order in the state. Chugh alleged that the Bhagwant Mann-led government had “effectively mortgaged the state to gangsters,” adding that criminal elements were “having a free run in Punjab, creating an atmosphere of terror and fear across the state.” Referring to a spate of violent incidents in recent days, including killings in Amritsar and Moga, Chugh said the Abohar murder was not an isolated case but part of a broader breakdown in policing. “This is an alarming situation that reflects the complete collapse of the law and order machinery under the Bhagwant Mann government,” he said.
Citing the July 4 murder of Dr. Aniljeet Kamboj in Moga, father of Punjabi actress Tania, Chugh pointed out that the killing occurred just steps away from a police station.
“Barely seventy-two hours later, Abohar businessman Sanjay Verma was gunned down outside his showroom in broad daylight,” he noted. Chugh, accusing the Chief Minister of negligence, alleged that Bhagwant Mann continues to entertain Arvind Kejriwal, who pulls the strings from Delhi. Chugh demanded an immediate probe into the killings, monitored by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), and warned that Punjab, being a sensitive border state, “cannot be handed over to gangsters.” “Punjab has entered a dangerous new era of ‘goliyon ka raaj’, where the Chief Minister, who also holds the Home Ministry portfolio, is completely clueless and missing in action,” he added.
