Tarigami writes to ECI
Srinagar, Aug 19: CPI (M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami has written a letter to Election Commission of India (ECI) regarding challenges being faced by the print media in Jammu and Kashmir.
Tarigami said the challenges are also in view of the recent implementation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) . “With the MCC in place, advertisements related to development have been suspended from the date of announcement of polls, until the completion of elections,”he said. The CPI (M) leader has demanded the release of advertisements.
“ While the adherence to the MCC is crucial, it is important to consider the severe impact this decision has on the alreadystruggling print media industry in the region. It is pertinent to mention that the print media fraternity had also endured significant financial losses for the period of MCC imposed during recent Parliamentary elections, and they are now facing similar circumstances,”he said.
