Tarigami calls for equal assistance to migrants in J&K Assembly
Srinagar, Mar 25: Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami urged the Jammu and Kashmir administration to ensure parity in the assistance provided to migrants, particularly those who remained in the Valley during difficult times.
"Migrants who stayed back during difficult times should not be ignored. They should be included in the Prime Minister's Package, but they are still deprived of that assistance," Tarigami said.
Speaking in the Legislative Assembly, Tarigami stressed that many migrants who did not leave the region have been left out of the Prime Minister’s relief package and continue to be deprived of essential support. "Some people have suffered because of their association with political parties. They too deserve assistance and recognition," he stated.
He also highlighted the plight of nearly 1,300 migrants, including Kashmiri Pandits.
Tarigami acknowledged that the new administration has been in place for only four months but urged the Chief Minister to take immediate steps to address the concerns of the migrant community.
"I don’t blame the new administration, but I only request the Chief Minister to look into the matter and extend support to the migrants who are still struggling," he added.
His remarks come amid broader discussions in the assembly regarding the welfare of Kashmiri migrants.
Recently, the government informed the House that it is considering the construction of housing for employees appointed under the Prime Minister's Package for Kashmiri Migrants, addressing concerns raised by legislators over inadequate accommodation.
