Health is wealth is no mere ornament for essays and speeches, but a hard truth that silently influences the value and meaning of our existence. All that we dream of and accomplish relies upon the power of our body as well as the tranquility of our mind. However, the rapidly progressing pace of the world makes individuals neglect health for the sake of money, success, and recognition that “health can be regained later.” This is a reality that time and experience illustrate is actually not the truth, as in a weakened state of health, nothing else matters. It is not hard-hitting actions that bring about good health but some minute actions that can be taken every day, which seem to be no less than mere routine activities but bring about a profound effect as a whole.

From the broader perspective of public health, it is evident that most modern illnesses do not strike all of a sudden. Observations in world health indicate that diabetes, high blood pressure, heart ailments, obesity, and stress-related disorders result from accumulating unhealthy lifestyle habits throughout life. Poor dietary habits, lack of exercise, abnormal sleep patterns, chronic stress, and ignorance of health and hygiene silently destroy the body for many years before diseases become manifest. This fact brings out one thing: health is not built in hospitals but during life, and prevention is far, far better than treatment.

Nutrition is an important factor in ensuring good health in life. Good health through good food does not entail costly food and tricky guidelines but simply moderation and familiarity with healthy food practices. That is why local and straight-from-the-garden foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, and quality proteins in appropriate quantities provide quality nourishment and boost immunity levels in the body, while on the contrary, an overdose of processed foods, sodas, and fast foods damages health and leads to chronic illnesses because food is not merely meant for relishing and satisfying hunger but for satisfying health needs as well.

Another fundamental base that is ignored by the demands of modern living is physical activity. It has been verified time and time again that even moderate physical activity such as walking, stretching, biking, or physical labor can help the heart function properly by regulating weight and reducing stress levels along with improving mental health. The body has natural systems to deploy when activity becomes a regular part of one’s life, and one doesn’t need to work out hard or invest in a gym to reap the benefits.

Sleep is an often-overlooked aspect of living. Sleep is essential for body repair, helps boost the immune system, and regulates all things emotional. Science demonstrates that sleep is linked to fatigue, crankiness, difficulty concentrating, and lifestyle-related diseases. Taking a nap is not time wasted; rather, it is a body necessity that helps in body as well as mental functioning.

Mental health should be accorded the same treatment and consideration as physical health. Stress, anxiety, loneliness, and burnout are challenges that people suffer in modern society and spill over into physical health. Simple habits like staying socially connected, identifying and articulating emotions, controlling the usage of screens, prayer, and moments of silence will aid in retaining mental equilibrium. Tending to mental health is not an indication of weakness but an integral aspect of living healthfully.

Preventive healthcare is important in combating illnesses and suffering. Health checkups, screening, immunization, and consulting health facilities on time help address issues before they become major problems. In most cases, health problems result not because solutions are not available; rather, solutions are sought after significant suffering has been experienced. Health awareness is important in assisting clients make appropriate health choices and visit health facilities on time.

Basic hygiene, Sanitation, and Environmental Cleanliness are the basic principles of Public Health. Clean Water, proper Means of Waste Disposal, Clean Hands, and Clean Living Environment are effective in preventing the spread of contagious illnesses and, in fact, are among the most effective acts for improving health because of their simplicity.

The misuse of drugs affects physical and mental stability. Smoking, alcohol, and drugs affect the body, the brain, and the family. Preventing, educating, and treating can be helpful, but when it happens early, it can be more effective than the treatment process.

In regions such as Kashmir, in which changing lifestyles, stress, environmental factors, and a lack of awareness regarding preventive measures are resulting in increased sources of concern for medical care, there is an urgent need to emphasize healthy living, mental well-being, and prevention. Together, individuals, families, communities, and healthcare systems share a responsibility for the well-being of individuals.

In conclusion, Health is the silence within which all of life hangs; its demands are not for perfection but for constancy; its voice is not for revolution but for honest effort. A sound health does “not require an addition to its score of climacteric years” but “an addition to its years of vitality.” Investing efforts on health will not only add years to one’s life but “life to years” to prove that health is wealth indeed! The best decision that can be made by an individual as well as by society is to protect health because “it is all the wealth there may be.”
