Take immediate action to prevent further damage: Usman Majid
Bandipora, Aug 15: Former Minister and Ex-MLA Bandipora, Usman Majid, has expressed deep concern over the alarming situation in various parts of Bandipora district due to continuous rains and cloudbursts in some upper villages.
In a statement, Majid stated that he has received multiple reports from residents in these areas, highlighting that water has entered paddy fields and villages, causing significant distress among the local population.
He added that the situation is particularly dire in the Arin Block, Bonakoot Block, Panzigam, and Barzulla areas of Bandipora, where breaches in embankments have exacerbated the flooding. The former MLA urged the District Administration of Bandipora to take immediate action to prevent further damage.
He called for the swift deployment of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams to the affected areas, emphasising the need for urgent intervention to safeguard lives, property, and agricultural lands from further destruction. “It is imperative that the administration acts promptly to mitigate the damage," Majid said.
In addition to the immediate response, Majid also raised concerns about the potential long-term impact of the flooding on local agriculture. He mentioned reports of crop losses and urged the administration to dispatch revenue teams to assess the damage accurately. The affected farmers must be fairly compensated for their losses, he added
