Ladakh, May 8: In a moment of pride for Ladakh, two Taekwondo players from Kargil, Shanaz Parveen and Sonam Chosphal, were felicitated for winning gold medals at the Federation Cup Taekwondo National Championship held in Nasik, Maharashtra.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Shrikant Suse, felicitated the players with traditional Khataks and lauded their hard work and dedication. He held discussions with them about their training schedules and the need to improve sports infrastructure in the region.

The athletes were accompanied by their coach, Zaheer Abass Khan.

The athletes requested the early sanctioning of land for the construction of a full-fledged taekwondo training hall in Kargil town. The DC assured them that the matter will be taken on a priority basis. He was accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Imteeaz Ahmed Kacho.

Earlier, the athletes also called upon Acting CEC LAHDC Kargil, Kacho Mohammad Feroz, who also felicitated them with traditional Khataks and shared tea with them. He discussed LAHDC Kargil’s plans to arrange necessary funds to support athletes participating in national and international competitions. He was accompanied by Councillor Bhimbhat and President of the Contractor Association, Abdul Wahid.

Joint Director of Youth Services and Sports, UT Ladakh, Tahir Hussain Zubdavi, also felicitated the medallists and shared a cup of tea with them. He wished them a bright future and discussed long-term plans to support their sporting journey.

The athletes were also felicitated by Superintendent of Police Kargil, Raam R, at his office.

During their interactions, the players expressed gratitude to their international-level coach, Master Atul Pangotra, crediting their success to his relentless efforts and world-class training. They also extended heartfelt thanks to LAHDC Kargil, CEC Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, MP Ladakh Haji Hanifa Jan, DC Shrikant Suse, and Joint Director YSS Tahir Hussain Zubdavi for their unwavering support and encouragement.
