TAAK leads strategic push to promote Kargil as year-round destination
Srinagar, Jun 15: The Travel Agents Association of Kashmir (TAAK) has wrapped up a four-day Familiarisation (FAM) Tour to Kargil, held from June 12 to 15, aimed at strengthening B2B partnerships and tapping into the untapped tourism potential of the region.
The delegation, led by TAAK President Rauf A. Tramboo, comprised prominent travel agents from the Kashmir Valley who engaged with local tourism stakeholders, assessed infrastructure, and explored avenues to integrate Kargil into mainstream travel circuits.
The tour was flagged off in Srinagar by Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, who lauded TAAK’s proactive role in promoting offbeat destinations. MLA Tangmarg Farooq A. Shah and Joint Director Tourism Wasim Raja were also present during the ceremony.
During the four-day visit, the group covered key attractions including Hunderman LOC Viewpoint, Aryan Valley, Suru Valley, Umbala Top, Mushkoh Valley, and the Kargil War Memorial, gaining first-hand experience of the region’s natural and cultural offerings.
A key highlight was a stakeholder interaction and felicitation event held at the Tourist Facilitation Center, Kargil. Chief Executive Councillor of LAHDC Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, assured the association of complete support in promoting Kargil as a year-round destination. Executive Councillor Tourism Kacho Mohammad Feroz, Director Tourism Kashmir Kunzes Angmo, Assistant Director Tourism Kargil Mohd Ali Tak, former CEC Feroz Ahmad Khan, Assistant Director Tourism Ladakh Muhammad Ali Tak, and AKTTA President Mohd Ali were among the officials present.
Former TAAK Presidents Farooq A. Kuthoo and Peerzada Faiyaz Ahmad also joined the tour and emphasised the importance of regional integration in tourism promotion.
The initiative served as a platform to create new inter-regional travel circuits, promote collaborative marketing strategies, and encourage business linkages between stakeholders of Kashmir and Kargil, with an emphasis on sustainable and community-driven tourism development.
