SWITCH Mobility unveils 2 cutting-edge electric city buses
Srinagar, Dec 12: In a landmark event, SWITCH Mobility Ltd, a subsidiary of Ashok Leyland and part of the Hinduja Group, introduced two innovative electric buses – the EiV12 for the Indian market and the E1 for the European market. The launch, led by Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport and Highways, marks a significant milestone in sustainable urban mobility.
A statement said that the SWITCH EiV12, India's first low-floor city bus with chassis-mounted batteries, boasts a scalable battery capacity of over 400 kWh and can accommodate up to 39 passengers. Designed with a focus on accessibility and safety, the bus features a kneeling mechanism, an automated wheelchair ramp, and five CCTV cameras to ensure passenger security.
Highlighting the company's commitment to sustainable transportation, Ashok P. Hinduja emphasized that these buses embody the "Make in India" vision, while Dheeraj Hinduja noted they represent a significant step towards democratizing electric mobility worldwide.
The European-market SWITCH E1 showcases advanced engineering with a lightweight monocoque construction, in-wheel motors, and a triple-door configuration. Capable of carrying up to 93 passengers, the E1 is designed to meet the specific transit needs of European urban environments.
Mahesh Babu, CEO of SWITCH Mobility, revealed that the EiV12 has already secured an impressive 1,800 orders, reflecting market confidence in the company's sustainable transport solutions. The Indian electric city bus market is projected to grow at a 21% CAGR by 2030, with an expected EV penetration of 70%.
