Jammu, Sep 29: The Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Monday asserted that J&K’s sustainable urban planning and execution on the ground was a bold roadmap for future cities.

Referring to Tawi riverfront acting as a protective shield for Jammu city during recent natural disasters, he also exhorted the government departments and agencies to adopt sustainable practices and strictly enforce environmental regulations to create a smart urban ecosystem.

The Lieutenant Governor, on this occasion, laid the foundation stone for 60 projects of AMRUT 2.0 worth Rs 699.79 Cr.

In his address the Lieutenant Governor lauded the efforts of Housing and Urban Development Department and Jammu Municipal Corporation for fostering inclusive growth and improving their infrastructure and services for city’s residents.

He said, “Our sustainable urban planning and execution on the ground is a bold roadmap for future cities. Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, my mission is to ensure that 'No one should be left behind'. We will ensure that the marginalized are reached and included in the development process for greater progress and prosperity.”

The Lieutenant Governor called for sustainable urban infrastructure and integration of smart technology to develop more liveable and vibrant cities and to mitigate environmental challenges.

“We must adopt sustainable practices and strictly enforce environmental regulations to create a smart urban ecosystem. Tawi Riverfront served as a protective shield for Jammu city against recent natural disasters and saved surrounding areas from flooding. It is an excellent example of sustainable development projects,” LG Sinha said.

He asked the Housing and Urban Development Department to replicate the Swachhata Internship programme and Green Colony initiative of Jammu Municipal Corporation in other cities across Jammu and Kashmir.

He also urged all the officials and the people to cultivate a sense of ownership for their city to strengthen connect and contribute for betterment of urban assets and public spaces.

On the occasion, the Lieutenant Governor felicitated the students under Swachhata Internship for best model and Swachhagrahis for their exemplary contribution during Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra. Sanction letters were also handed over to beneficiaries under different schemes.

Jugal Kishore Sharma, Member of Parliament; Gulam Ali Khatana, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha; Bharat Bhushan, DDC chairman Jammu; Yudhvir Sethi; Vikram Randhawa, Arvind Gupta, Surinder Bhagat, Members of Legislative Assembly; Atal Dulloo, Chief Secretary; Mandeep Kaur, Commissioner Secretary, Housing and Urban Development Department; Brij Mohan Sharma, Principal Secretary Culture; Ramesh Kumar, Divisional Commissioner Jammu; Bhim Sen Tuti, IGP Jammu; Dr Rakesh Minhas, Deputy Commissioner Jammu; Dr Devansh Yadav, Municipal Commissioner Jammu, senior officials, members of NGOs and people in large number attended the Sewa Parv celebrations.
