Suspicious object destroyed in controlled explosion near Dal Lake

Srinagar, Sep 22: Security agencies carried out a controlled explosion on Monday morning after a suspicious white ball-shaped object was found along the Boulevard Road, adjacent to the iconic Dal Lake.

The object was spotted in the morning causing authorities to seal the busy road stretch—a route that typically sees high tourist footfall. Security personnel responded immediately, cordoning off the area and deploying bomb disposal units. A video from the scene captured the moment the object was neutralised through a controlled detonation.

The incident has sparked concern among residents and officials alike, coming days after the discovery of an unexploded shell from a previous military operation in the same area.

Officials from the Lake Conservation and Management Authority (LCMA) recovered fragments of an exploded shell from the lakebed during a routine cleaning drive on September 21. Authorities believe the shell was part of the missile or drone strike fallout during Operation Sindoor. The remains were handed over to the police for forensic analysis.
