Surgical gastroenterologist from Kashmir conferred gold medal for academic excellence

Delhi, May 10:  Noted surgical gastroenterologist from Kashmir, Dr Mir Mujtaba Ahmad was awarded the prestigious Dr N Rangabashyam Gold Medal for academic excellence at the convocation of the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences in New Delhi on Friday.

A statement issued here said that the award is a testament to Dr Ahmad’s exceptional academic calibre, hard work, and dedication to the field.

The statement said that it was the first time that a surgical gastroenterologist from Kashmir has been conferred with a gold medal for standing first in the Dr N B exit examination.

It said that Dr Ahmad completed his super speciality training in the field of surgical gastroenterology from SKIMS under the guidance of Prof Omar Javed Shah, a renowned figure in the discipline of surgical gastroenterology.

The statement said that the 22nd NBEMS convocation was held at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi and was presided over by the honourable President of India Droupadi Murmu and attended by leading medical professionals and dignitaries from around the country.

It said that the Dr N Rangabashyam Gold Medal is awarded annually to a surgical gastroenterologist who demonstrates outstanding academic merit and commitment.

“I am deeply honoured to receive the prestigious award,” Dr Ahmad said. “I am grateful for the support of my mentors, colleagues, my friends and family who have encouraged me to pursue excellence in my work and academics.”

“Presently working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at GMC Anantnag, Dr Ahmad's expertise in surgical gastroenterology would have an impact on better patient care, especially to patients suffering from gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary and pancreatic diseases,” the statement said.
