“Had you ever thought that India would achieve independence? The party that scrapped it (Article 370) had been striving for it for the last 75 years. There is no need to worry, it will be restored it even if it takes 100 years,” NC President said.

When asked about the Jamaat-e-Islamai’s decision to field its former members as independent candidates, he said that it is good to see them taking part in the electoral process.

“Instead of supporting others stealthily, they should come forward and contest elections to work for the betterment of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.

Meanwhile, in the neighbouring Shopian district two national Conference candidates Sheikh Mohammad Rafi and Showkat Ahmad Ganai filed their nomination papers from Shopian and Zainpora constituencies respectively.
