Supreme Court appoints arbitrator to adjudicate dispute with foreign film producers

Srinagar, Oct 28: The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday appointed arbitrator to adjudicate dispute with foreign film producers, and Bollywood actess Richa Chadda.

The apex court took the decision after UK based film producers have approached the Hon’ble Supreme Court for appointment of Arbitrator under Sec 11(6) of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act 1996, to adjudicate the dispute with the actress Richa Chadda on account of alleged breach of artist agreement.

The Hon’ble Apex Court by consent of both the parties appointed Rtd. Justice S J Kathawalla. UK based producers were represented by Delhi based AOR firm, SS Rana and Co. in the Supreme Court , and as per the firm Arbitration is an effective alternative dispute resolution technique for speedy resolution of disputes and the award of the same is binding on both parties.
