SC appoints arbitrator to adjudicate dispute with foreign film producers, Bollywood actress
New Delhi, Oct 28: The Supreme Court has appointed an arbitrator to adjudicate dispute with foreign film producers and Bollywood actress Richa Chadda.
UK-based film producers had approached the top court for appointment of an Arbitrator under Sec 11(6) of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996, to adjudicate the dispute with the actress Richa Chadda on account of alleged breach of artist’s agreement.
The Apex Court after getting consent of both the parties appointed Rtd. Justice SJ Kathawalla as an arbitrator.
The UK-based producers were represented by Delhi based AOR firm, SS Rana and Co. and the matter was argued by dispute resolution lawyer Nihit Nagpal in the court.
As per Mr. Nagpal, Arbitration is an effective alternative dispute resolution technique for speedy resolution of disputes and the award of the same is binding on both parties.
