Srinagar, Oct 27: Senior BJP leader and Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma on Monday launched a sharp attack on the J&K government, accusing Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of failing to frame a clear policy for flood victims and alleging that several ministers came to the Assembly “unprepared and uninterested.”

Speaking to reporters outside the Assembly after the second day of the ongoing session, Sharma said the Chief Minister had failed to explain the government’s stand on the issue of land allotment, which he claimed was being wrongly linked to flood rehabilitation.

“The Chief Minister talked about land allotment to the landless, but that has nothing to do with the flood victims,” Sharma said.

“It is unfortunate that even after repeated announcements, no concrete policy has been formulated for those affected by the recent floods.”

He alleged that the government had shown “complete insensitivity” towards the plight of families who lost their homes and livelihoods in the 2025 floods. “The CM had promised a comprehensive rehabilitation plan, but all we see is confusion and delay,” Sharma said.

The BJP leader also criticised ministers for their lack of seriousness in legislative business, saying many seemed unprepared for questions and discussions. “They don’t even go through their files. They just read whatever is handed to them. It feels like some ministers wake up from sleep, walk into the Assembly, and speak without any understanding of the issues,” he remarked.

Despite his scathing remarks, Sharma admitted that several MLAs had raised “genuine and people-centric concerns” during the session, which, according to him, made the proceedings “somewhat meaningful.”

The recent floods, triggered by heavy rainfall and cloudbursts across the Chenab, Jhelum, and Tawi river basins, caused massive destruction in several districts of J&K.
