Local guide Aijaz Ahmed reports a spike in queries and bookings over the past few months. “The trekking season has begun, and we’re receiving groups every week, mostly heading to Kashmir Great Lakes,” he says. Ahmed attributes this growing popularity to social media campaigns that have successfully showcased Kashmir’s stunning trekking spots.

Another guide, Javaid Khan, highlights the Gangabal Lake trek as a prime destination. Starting at an elevation of 12,000 feet from Shutkadi Sonamarg in Ganderbal district, this expedition offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and outdoor adventure.

The trend is not limited to locals. Tourists from across India and abroad are increasingly drawn to Kashmir’s trekking routes, creating new business opportunities for local guides who ensure safe and secure tours.

This shift towards alpine adventures is not just a recreational pursuit but also a welcome economic boost for the region. As the mercury rises, it seems Kashmir’s youth and visitors are finding novel ways to keep their cool while exploring the breathtaking landscapes of the Valley.

The trekking boom underscores Kashmir’s potential as a premier adventure tourism destination, promising a blend of thrilling experiences and natural beauty for those willing to ascend to new heights.
