Successive Govt’s failed to repeal PSA: Sajad Lone
Srinagar, Oct 19: People’s Conference president Sajad Gani Lone on Sunday claimed that every chief minister and Governor of J&K has "used the Public Safety Act (PSA) without restraint." Lone was reacting to a statement by AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi, in which the latter, took a swipe at successive J&K governments for “misusing PSA.”
Lone said no government in J&K ever made efforts to repeal the PSA, despite having powers to do so. “They never repealed this draconian law when they could. They never will,” Lone wrote on X.
Owaisi had criticised all governments in J&K since 1978 for allegedly misusing the PSA, while reacting to CM Omar Abdullah’s recent statement that he would revoke the law through an ordinance if he returned to power. Lone welcomed Owaisi’s remarks, saying, “I have to say it is for the first time that someone from the rest of the country has called a spade a spade.”
