Students, parents protest installation of mobile tower in Bandipora school
Bandipora, Nov 14: On children’s day, when schools across the country celebrate the day, at the Bandipora school on Thursday several students and their parents held a protest against installation of the mobile tower at the school.
The protesting parents termed the installation of a mobile tower in the school premises as a setback for the children’s health. “It is hugely hazardous for the young children,” they said.
“It is unfortunate that on children’s day we along with the children had to protest,” a local Mohammad Sonauallah told Greater Kashmir outside the Government Boys Middle school at Nusso in the outskirts of the main town in district headquarters.
Locals alleged that the executing company or the contractor has been constructing the tower at “odd times” while keeping the village elders in darkness.
The grave repercussions of the radiation emitted by these towers are dangerous and constructing it on the school premises poses a greater risk, Sonaullah said.
Locals said the construction is going on despite applications against this having been sent to the district administration and the Zonal Education Office in Bandipora.
They added that even when the company too was intimated about the concerns of the locals and parents, they did not pay any heed and continued to move ahead with the construction.
Former MLA of the district, Usman Majid also flagged the issue, criticising the authorities for allowing the construction on school premises.
He also asked the administration to immediately revoke the permission for the construction for the safety of the children in school.
