Students of Baramulla Gujjar hostel hold protest over inadequate facilities

Baramulla, Sep 10: The students of Gujjar Hostel Baramulla on Tuesday staged a protest against the inadequate facilities at the hostel.

The aggrieved students assembled near the DC office Baramulla and raised slogans in favour of their demand. While talking to the media, the protesting students said that the hostel authorities have failed to provide basic facilities to the students which include books, uniform and proper food and healthcare at the hostel.

“From last two years, we have been facing various issues which include non-availability of uniforms, books, health care facilities and proper food,” said one of the protesting students. He said although "we used to have breakfast earlier, however, now, the hostel authorities are now providing a bread piece with tea in the early morning."

“Besides, whenever a student falls ill, the hostel management does not take proper care of the ailing student with the result, the students are facing immense hardships,” added protesting students.

A parent accompanying the protesting students said that they have admitted their wards with the hope that they will have at least facilities like books, proper healthcare and proper food. However, they are disappointed with the present administration of the hostel which includes warden and other staff members.

“When we asked the warden for the inadequate facilities to the students, he claimed that they used to receive 175 rupees per student for their meals including tea, however, now, they have been receiving just Rs 100 with the result, facilities are getting affected,” said a parent of one of the hostel students.

The protesting students have urged the Baramulla district administration to intervene in the matter so that students of the hostel don’t face hardships.
