Students blame private schools for not preparing them for new examination pattern

Srinagar, Mar 7: The students enrolled in different private schools on Thursday complained that the schools did not provide them prior information about the change in the mode of holding exams for the lower classes.

The complaints poured in at a time when the J&K SCERT in December last year issued a notification about the Summative Assessment of students of lower classes.

The J&K SCERT stated that the examination of all the lower classes will be conducted by the respective schools under overall supervision of the concerned complex for the current (2023-24) academic session.

As per the SCERT notification issued earlier, the term II examination of all lower classes were supposed to be held immediately after the schools reopened for routine class work post three month long winter vacations.

However, the students from various schools stated that they spent the whole winter vacation preparing for conventional examinations and were left surprised with the sudden change in examination, leaving them under immense mental stress.

“No prior communication was received from the schools during the change in the scheme of the examination. The whole issue has been disclosed after reopening of schools,” said Muhammad Shafi, a parent from Srinagar whose kid is enrolled in one of the top notch schools of Srinagar.

“School has not prepared the students for the new examination scheme,” the parent said. The students have been left perplexed with no prior information provided to them regarding the new scheme of examination.

Amid the complaints of the students, an official from the SCERT J&K stated that all the schools were informed on time about the change in the scheme of examination.

“As the exam of lower class students is being held by the respective schools, we had issued information well in advance. There must be some fault on part of schools,” the J&KSCERT official told Greater Kashmir.

The official said the issue will be discussed with schools and appropriate action will follow accordingly.
