Structures built in violation of High Court orders demolished in Kangan
Ganderbal, Nov 25: Authorities on Tuesday carried out a demolition drive in the Kangan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, dismantling structures built along the Nallah Sindh in violation of High Court orders.
Official sources said a team comprising officials from the Revenue Department, Police, Rural Development, and the Flood and Irrigation Department, acting on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, conducted the drive in Satrina, Kangan. During the operation, several permanent and temporary structures constructed along the banks of Nallah Sindh were demolished.
Officials said the structures were raised in clear violation of the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court’s directive prohibiting any construction within 100 metres of the Nallah. The administration stressed the importance of securing proper building permissions and urged residents to comply with regulations to protect the district’s ecological and landscape integrity.
Meanwhile, locals said such drives should not be selective and demanded similar action against other illegal constructions along Nallah Sindh and the national highway. They also questioned how the structures were allowed to come up in the first place, saying the sudden demolitions had caused significant losses to the owners.
