Srinagar, Dec 2: Directing them to intensify legal action on the Over Ground Workers, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Zone, Virdi Kumar Birdi Saturday emphasised strengthening the intelligence grid on the ground.

The directions came during the IGP Kashmir’s visit to Awantipora in south Kashmir where he chaired a security review meeting.

The meeting was also attended by DIG South Kashmir Range, Anantnag, Rayees Muhammad Bhat and SSP Awantipora, Ajaz Ahmad Zargar.

The meeting focused on strategic initiatives to enhance security measures, foster community engagement in Police District Awantipora, legal action against Over Ground Workers (OGWs) and curb drug menace.

Zargar presented an overview of the steps initiated by the Police to counter any challenges and threats faced by the inimical elements at the ground level.

The IGP Kashmir discussed the other threat perceptions and emphasised the establishment of a proper security grid in the Police district.

He also stressed the result-oriented disposal of pending cases, especially NDPS cases.

Birdi also emphasised that all stakeholders should be taken into confidence by creating synergy and cordial relations with them.

He emphasised strengthening the intelligence grid on the ground, alertness of deployed personnel, intensified legal action on OGWs, and following all the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in letter and spirit.

The IGP Kashmir also stressed the importance and need of modern technology in ushering transparency in the functioning of the Police Department.

He stressed the officers for the adoption of modern technology for better and transparent policing which is result-oriented and people friendly.

Highlighting the importance of the people’s role in the prevailing scenario, Birdi stressed the officers to evolve more effective mechanisms and ensure public safety while dealing with the elements inimical to peace especially rumour mongers on social media platforms.

He also paid floral tributes to the fallen cops at District Police Lines, Awantipora.

Soon after the floral tribute, the IGP Kashmir also inaugurated the GOs mess at DPL Awantipora and inspected the infrastructure and other facilities available on the premises.
