Locals reported that packs of dogs are frequently seen near the main bus stand, along streets and in residential lanes of towns and adjoining areas, especially during the morning and evening hours. Over the past few months, residents have noticed a sudden increase in the number of dogs in areas such as Beehama, Gund and Kangan, raising questions about the authorities’ ability to control the growing menace.

“The abundance of dogs has created a sense of fear among the people, especially children. It has now become a grave issue,” locals told *Greater Kashmir*. Another resident said the number of stray dogs is increasing day by day, particularly in rural areas, while the authorities appear to be paying little attention to public safety.
