Stray dogs on prowl in Kupwara
Kupwara, Oct 24: The residents of Handwara and Kupwara have expressed strong resentment against the presence of large number of stray dogs in these towns.
Residents said that presence of stray dogs in new bus stand Handwara, Herpora, UmerAbad, Maqbool Abad, Kupwara byepass road, SDH Kupwara hampers movement of locals and school kids.
“Due to the presence of many slaughterhouses here in our locality the population of stray dogs has increased manifold but authorities are watching as mute spectators,” said Manzoor Ahmad a local from Herpora Handwara.
Pertinently in recent past many injuries came to fore in twin towns of Kupwara and Handwara. Rafiq Ahmad of bye-pass road Kupwara said. “Although we brought this matter into the notice of concerned authorities several times but to no avail,” he added.
An official at Muncipal Committee Handwara while acknowledging the fact said that indeed stray dogs have been an alarming issue.
“Government should come up with some concrete steps so that the people may not fall prey to dogs,” he added.
