Stray dog menace remains a big worry for residents of Baramulla town
Baramulla, Dec 27: The residents of Baramulla town have urged the district administration to take immediate action against the growing stray dog menace, which has become a severe concern for the locals here.
The issue is particularly severe in old town Baramulla, where an unprecedented rise in the stray dog population has left residents, especially the elderly and children, too afraid to venture outside their homes.
“The stray dog population has surged drastically, especially in the old town of Baramulla. However, the authorities seem unable to address the issue. This has left the common people in distress,” said Muhammad Ashraf, a resident of Mohalla Syed Karim old town Baramulla.
The concerned residents said that over the past few months, multiple dog bite incidents have been reported across the town, which has intensified their fears.
They are now demanding that the administration either remove the dogs from residential areas or implement a robust dog birth control programme to prevent further population growth.
“It is unfortunate that the authorities have not initiated any dog birth control measures. Without this, the population will continue to grow uncontrollably. The administration must act urgently, as human lives are at stake,” said Bilal Ahmad, another local resident.
The residents are urging the district authorities to take the matter seriously, so that the safety and well-being of the locals here is ensured.
