Stop political point-scoring, focus on core public issues: Qayoom Wani

Srinagar, Nov 24: The Jammu & Kashmir Civil Society Forum (JKCSF) expressed serious concern over the growing trend of politicians engaging in petty point-scoring instead of addressing pressing public issues.

Speaking at a retirees’ function of employees at Town Hall Tangmarg, Abdul Qayoom Wani took a dig at politicians in general for “reducing public discourse to trivial matters such as electric poles and macadamization.”

He said that political leadership is expected to work on long-term solutions rather than temporary and cosmetic works. Referring particularly to political circles in Tangmarg, Wani criticized attempts to claim credit over the opening of the Drung tourist destination, stating that such matters should not become tools for political mileage.

“If they have to score points at all, let it be on bigger and meaningful issues,” Wani remarked. He stressed the urgent need to address the water crisis, improve the environmental safeguards of Gulmarg, and establish a scientific waste management system to protect the fragile ecology of the region. Wani added that the people of Tangmarg and the entire Union Territory deserve leadership that works beyond photographs and announcements, and instead delivers sustainable solutions.He urged all political stakeholders to rise above narrow interests and contribute responsibly towards public welfare. The gathering of senior citizens and retired employees appreciated the concerns raised and echoed the need for focused, issue-based governance.
