State Cancer Institute celebrates foundation day

Cancer can be defeated with will-power, say survivors

Jammu, Feb 3: The State Cancer Institute-Jammu on Saturday celebrated its first Foundation Day and also observed ‘World Cancer Day’ by organising different awareness programmes on the hospital premises.

The highlight of the day was the sixteen survivors. All these survivors, who defeated cancer and are living normal lives now, were invited by the State Cancer Institute to give a message to the people that ‘Cancer can be defeated.’

The survivors also shared their experiences and said, “Cancer can be defeated with willpower.”

Toshi Devi, Dr Neeraj Kumar, Gurdev Raj, Sukh Ram, Jaswant Raj, Usha Devi, Kanta Devi, Babli Kumari, Babu Ram, Laxmi Devi, Agastya, Phool Devi, Vishal Bhatt and three more were the survivors who were invited on the day.

The awareness programmes like ‘Can-Walk’, poster-making competition, awareness lectures and skits were organised under the guidance and overall supervision of the Medical Superintendent of State Cancer Institute-Jammu, Dr Deepak Kumar.

The staff members, senior doctors and faculty members, students and para-medical staff participated in the celebrations with full enthusiasm.

Principal and Dean, Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu (GMC&H), Dr Ashutosh Gupta was the chief guest on the occasion. Senior doctors namely Dr Bhatia, Principal, GMC-Rajouri, Dr Ghanshyam Saini, Head, Paediatrics Department, senior Paediatrician, Dr Sanjeev Dingra and others were also present during the celebrations.

The celebrations started with ‘Can-Walk’ in which the staff members, senior doctors and faculty members, students, para-medical staff and others participated with full enthusiasm.

It passed through different wings and areas of the State Cancer Institute, Super Specialty Hospital and the GMC-Jammu. Dr Deepak Kumar, Medical Superintendent, State Cancer Institute, presented a vote of thanks.
