Stakeholders must apprise MHA team about Kashmir's ecological concerns: NLCO
Srinagar, Sep 7: Nigeen Lake Conservation Organisation (NLCO) chairman Manzoor Wangnoo has called upon stakeholders to apprise the visiting MHA team about Kashmir's ecological concerns and solutions.
"The recent floods and the overall catastrophe have caused immense damage across Jammu & Kashmir, affecting homes, agriculture, infrastructure, and livelihoods. The scars left behind will take years to heal, and the suffering of the people remains deep and painful," Wangnoo said.
“We welcome the visit of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) team to Kashmir for an on-the-spot assessment of the devastation. While immediate relief and rehabilitation are urgent, it is equally important that the team engages with stakeholders, experts, and environmentalists. Only by listening to those who have been working on the ground and studying these ecological challenges can we ensure that long-term, sustainable solutions are put in place," he said.
Wangnoo said this disaster is a stark reminder that floods are not just natural events but often worsened by human neglect and environmental mismanagement. "The people of Jammu & Kashmir need both immediate support and a comprehensive vision for the future — one that prioritizes ecological balance, restoration of water bodies, and preparedness against future calamities. We sincerely hope the central team’s visit will pave the way for meaningful policies, generous relief, and sustained partnerships to heal our wounded valley and safeguard it for generations to come," Wangnoo added.
