SSTA submits memorandum to LG, seeks redressal of issues

Srinagar, Oct 17: The Scientists and Teachers Association (SSTA) of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) has submitted a memorandum to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, who also serves as the Chancellor of SKUAST-K.

In the memorandum, the SSTA, led by President Prof Javeed A Mugloo, congratulated the Lieutenant Governor for SKUAST-K’s recent achievement of being ranked the 5th best State Agricultural University in India.

The association expressed gratitude for the administration’s continued support towards the university’s academic and research development.

The SSTA welcomed the recent decision to increase the superannuation age for university professors to 65 years, describing it as a progressive move that will help retain experienced faculty. However, the association requested reconsideration of proposed riders or reviews attached to this enhancement, arguing that additional conditions could potentially create inconsistencies in its application and affect faculty morale.

The memorandum also addressed the need for uniform House Rent Allowance (HRA) practices across all faculties and stations within SKUAST-K. The association highlighted current variations in HRA that can lead to disparities and administrative inefficiencies and requested standardization in line with practices observed at the University of Kashmir.

Additionally, the SSTA brought attention to salary disparities faced by Assistant Professors recruited after 2017. The association appealed for the reinstatement of five advance increments for these faculty members, a practice that was previously in place for new recruits but discontinued after 2017.

The memorandum concluded with the SSTA reaffirming its commitment to working towards the betterment of SKUAST-K and contributing to its growth as a leading agricultural institution in India. The association expressed confidence that SKUAST-K will continue to rise in stature and excellence under the Lieutenant Governor’s leadership.
