Srinagar’s SKICC turning into hub for destination weddings

Srinagar, July 21: Powered by the sprawling view of the famous Dal Lake, Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) is turning into a hub for destination weddings in Kashmir.

Officials at SKICC said many big event management companies are reaching out to them to hold big events. They said one such big event was held last week

“It was one of the biggest events in SKICC's history. The location and infrastructure provide the best options to those wanting to celebrate their big day in Kashmir,” said Shahnawaz Shah, Head Operations SKICC.

Shah said recently, around 10 big destination weddings were held at SKICC, and more bookings have also been made.

“This is the new market segment, and SKICC is emerging as a favorite place for such events. Global names like Celebration Events held a major destination wedding here last week, and they enjoyed the picturesque destination. We have a prime location with an excellent infrastructure. All the mega wedding events were held at a single location, and everything went smoothly,” Shah said.

He said that following these events and many global events like G20, the place displayed its potential to host big events. He said many India-based NRIs have reached out to them as they, too, want to hold their wedding here.

“Recently, couples of Indian origin from France and Canada reached out to us as they were impressed by the location,” he added.

To mention, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in one of the recent visits to Kashmir expressed his desire to promote destination weddings in India. He encouraged people to choose Indian locations like Jammu and Kashmir for their weddings.

The event managers that recently held their major destination wedding at SKICC said that they were mesmerised with the location and they would like to choose SKICC again for their next programs.

“Amid scorching heat, Kashmir has the perfect weather. It is cloudy and sunny throughout the day without being monotonous like other places. The beautiful lawns of SKICC and the Dal Lake gave us our dream location, which was perfect for all our events. We would love to come here again and benefit from such a beautiful place,” said one of the event managers.
