Srinagar, Sep 29: In a landmark event, the city of Srinagar will be hosting the 11th International Conference GOSICON-2024, dedicated to the health and well-being of senior citizens.

Scheduled to take place from October 3rd to 5th, 2024, at Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar, the three-day event is being organised by the Geriatric Orthopedic Society of India (GOSI) in collaboration with the Department of Orthopedics, GMC Srinagar, and the Moul Mouj Foundation (MMF).

Titled "Reconciling Mobility and Functions in the Elderly"—an interdisciplinary conference—the event will explore cutting-edge management strategies for elderly care. The discussions will span various aspects, including ethical and legal considerations, rheumatological challenges, and holistic medical care for the aging population.

A blend of international and national experts, including those from Jammu and Kashmir, will be participating in this global forum, sharing knowledge, insights, and expertise to enhance senior care practices.

Conference has attracted over 300 faculty and delegates from across India. These experts will bring their wealth of experience to the sessions, which will feature a blend of workshops, paper presentations, and poster presentations by emerging doctors and researchers. The conference holds a special significance for the medical community, as it is credited with eight CME (Continuing Medical Education) credit points by the JK Medical Council, emphasising its academic rigor and relevance.

In a press note, internationally renowned orthopaedic surgeon Dr John Ebnezar, Founder and National President of GOSI, Padma Shri Awardee and Dr. BC Roy National Awardee, expressed his gratitude to Principal GMC Srinagar, Prof. Iffat Hassan Shah. Prof. Shah, who is the patron of the conference, was recognised for her academic excellence and leadership in organising the event at GMC Srinagar.

The Srinagar organising committee includes key figures such as Professor Altaf A. Kawoosa, the Organising Chairman, alongside Dr Asif Nazir Baba and Dr Zubair Saleem, who serve as Organising Secretaries.

In his statement, Dr Zubair Saleem, a prominent senior geriatric consultant, noted that the three-day interdisciplinary conference is poised to bring together specialists from various fields to discuss innovative approaches to senior care, with a particular focus on restoring mobility and functionality in aging populations.

As the conference draws nearer, anticipation is building for what promises to be a highly informative and transformative event in the field of geriatric healthcare, with its outcomes expected to resonate both nationally and internationally.
