Several works are going on in different parts of the city under Srinagar Smart City Project. The local residents allege that completion of some of the works is unnecessarily getting delayed due to sluggish execution. Because of the delay, the people are facing lot of problems. Vehicular traffic and pedestrian movement is getting hampered as the roads are dug up or in a dilapidated condition.

The business is also getting hit. The traders say that they have been suffering losses. On Eid-ul-Adha they were expecting a good business. But this could not happen. According to them, their areas have been turned into virtual construction sites. Roads have been blocked instead of keeping at least one side open. The traders say they are not against development as it is for the welfare of the people. But they demand that the deadlines should be met and the works completed in time.

The business persons say that  they had brought the issue into the notice of concerned authorities several times but nothing was addressed satisfactorily. On the last Eid, Eid-ul-Fitr, the shopkeepers were assured completion of some of the works but the works are still lingering on. The concerned authorities must work on the problems faced by the people and complete the projects as per the set deadlines.

Sometimes delays occur due to certain reasons but these delays should not become a routine. Otherwise a work needing days for completion gets completed in weeks, and the work needing weeks may get completed in months or needing months getting completed in years. The works should be properly executed on the ground with proper planning. Haphazard execution of work creates confusion and leads to delay. Secondly, all construction sites should be made safe for driving. It is not only about Srinagar Smart City Project only but the ongoing construction work for the three flyovers on Srinagar Bypass Road at Bemina, Sanatnagar and Nowgam junctions also. Several accidents have occurred in the past. A number of vehicles fell into dug up roads after skidding off from the diversion stretches. These diversion stretches must be smooth and driving- friendly.
