Srinagar shivers at -5.4
Srinagar, Jan 6: Srinagar continued to experience cold nights as the mercury dropped to minus 5.4 degrees Celsius, marking the season's coldest night even as Meteorologist Department has predicted dry weather conditions during the next 24 hours.
The MeT officials said that there would be mainly dry weather in the next 24 hours, with generally cloudy conditions and the possibility of light rain and snow over isolated higher reaches on January 8. From January 9 to 10, generally dry weather is anticipated.
The recorded temperature in Srinagar was 1.6 degrees lower than the previous night, standing at 3.5 degrees Celsius below the normal for this time of the year.
This minimum temperature matched that of December 13, making it the coldest night of the season so far in the city.
The MeT officials said that Qazigund recorded a minimum of minus 4.6 degrees Celsius, which was 1.5 degrees Celsius below normal.
The health resort of Pahalgam, in south Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 6.3 degrees Celsius, slightly above normal by 0.7 degrees Celsius.
Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, saw a minimum of minus 2.9 degrees Celsius, exceeding normal temperatures by 1.1 degrees Celsius.
In north Kashmir, Kupwara town experienced a low of minus 5.4 degrees Celsius, a deviation of 2.7 degrees Celsius below normal.
Ski resort of Gulmarg in Baramulla district of north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 4.5 degrees Celsius, 3.3 degrees Celsius above normal.
They said Jammu recorded a minimum of 4.1 degrees Celsius, the coldest night this winter and 2.2 degrees Celsius below the normal temperature.
Other areas recorded sub-zero temperatures with Banihal at minus 1.6 degrees Celsius, Batote at 2.3 degrees Celsius, and Bhaderwah at minus 0.3 degrees Celsius.
