Srinagar shivers at -5.3° as MeT predicts dry weather

Srinagar, Dec 13: While the Meteorological Department has predicted dry weather for the next week, Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir are in the grip of an intense cold wave.

The MeT officials here said that dry and cold weather was most likely to continue till December 21 over most places of J&K with the possibility of a brief spell of very light snow at isolated extreme higher
reaches of north and northeastern parts of Kashmir division during the night of December 16.

“The mercury decreased by 4.3 degrees Celsius and settled at minus 5.3 degrees Celsius in Srinagar. Today’s temperature was 4.3 degrees Celsius below normal for this time of the year in the capital city,” they said.

The MeT officials said that the Gulmarg ski resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district recorded a low of minus 5.5 degrees Celsius against minus 3.5 degrees Celsius the previous night and the temperature was 1.3 degrees Celsius below normal at the resort.

They said that Pahalgam health resort in south Kashmir recorded a low of minus 5.3 degrees Celsius against minus 1.5 degrees Celsius the previous night and it was 1.5 degrees Celsius below normal at the resort.

The MeT officials said Kokernag recorded a minimum of minus 2.1 degrees Celsius against minus 2.3 degrees Celsius the previous night and the temperature was below normal by 1 degree Celsius for the resort.

They said Qazigund recorded a minimum of minus 3.2 degrees Celsius against minus 2.6 degrees Celsius the previous night while the minimum temperature was 2.1 degrees Celsius below normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.

The MeT officials said Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 3.7 degrees Celsius against minus 2.4 degrees Celsius the previous night and it was 2 degrees Celsius below normal there.

They said Jammu recorded a minimum of 7.3 degrees Celsius against 9.8 degrees Celsius the previous night, and it was below normal by 1.9 degrees Celsius while Banihal recorded 2.9 degrees Celsius, Batote 1.7 degrees Celsius, and Bhaderwah minus 0.2 degrees Celsius.
