Srinagar-Jammu NH open for one-way traffic
Ramban, Sep 23: The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway (NH-44) remained open for one-way traffic of Light Motor Vehicles and heavy vehicles towards Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, and Kashmir on Tuesday.
Traffic authorities said that although the highway was operational for Kashmir-bound vehicles, the movement remained slow due to the single-lane, uneven, and undulating road stretch at Tharad in Udhampur, as well as the on-foot movement of nomadic families with their livestock towards Jammu.
Officials monitoring traffic regulation at Tharad, where a 250-300 metre damaged stretch continues to hamper smooth passage, said that despite the slow movement, hundreds of vehicles, including passenger cars and trucks, managed to cross the Udhampur-Chenani sector till late Tuesday evening.
Traffic was being managed on a regulated basis throughout the day.
Meanwhile, authorities advised the commuters and vehicle operators not to travel against the traffic advisory due to possible congestion between Samroli and Tharad and between Maroog and Kishtwari Pattar.
Travellers have been advised to check the latest road status from the Traffic Control Units in Jammu, Srinagar, Udhampur, and Ramban, or through the official Traffic Department pages on X and Facebook, before embarking on their journey on Wednesday.
