Srinagar-Jammu NH open for 2-way traffic
Ramban, Apr 14: Despite light rain, the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remained open for two-way traffic of Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) and heavy vehicles on Sunday.
However, traffic authorities advised the passenger vehicle operators and other commuters not to undertake journeys on the highway during night hours due to apprehensions of shooting stones between Ramban and Banihal.
They have been asked to prefer journeys on the highway during the daytime only.
“Traffic movement remained slow due to the breakdown of two heavy vehicles, single road stretches, and poor surface condition at Dalwass, Mehar-Cafeteria, Ramban, Panthyal-Magarkote, Shalgari, Nachlana, and other places between Nashri and Banihal,” the officials said.
The officials monitoring the regulation of traffic in Ramban said, “The highway remained open and hundreds of LMVs and heavy vehicles crossed the Nashri-Banihal sector for their respective destinations without any disruption during the day. Heavy load carriers are heading towards Kashmir and Jammu in a regulated manner.”
Meanwhile, the officials at Traffic Control Unit (TCU) Ramban said that subject to fair weather and road clearance, LMVs will be allowed to ply on either side of the highway on Monday.
“Heavy vehicles will be allowed after assessing the road and traffic situation in a regulated manner on the highway between Udhampur and Qazigund on Monday,” they said.
The officials advised commuters and vehicle operators not to undertake journeys on the highway without confirming the status of the road from TCU Srinagar, Jammu, Udhampur, and Ramban on Monday morning in the wake of the Meteorological Department’s prediction of rains for the next few days.
