Srinagar-Jammu NH open for 2-way traffic
Ramban, April 4: The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remained open for two-way traffic of Light Motor Vehicles and heavy vehicles on Thursday.
Traffic officials said that the highway remained open but the movement of traffic remained slow due to the breakdown of five heavy vehicles, single lane carriageway at Dalwass, Mehar Cafeteria, Panthyal Kishtwari Pathar, Nachlana, and Shalgari and due to poor road surface conditions at many places between Nashri and Banihal sectors.
They said that despite the slow movement of traffic, hundreds of LMVs and heavy vehicles crossed the Nashri-Banihal sector for their respective destinations without interruption till late Thursday evening.
They said heavy load carriers were heading towards Kashmir and Jammu in a regulated manner.
Meanwhile, the J&K Traffic Police Department issued a fresh advisory for Friday stating that subject to fair weather and road clearance, LMVs would be allowed to ply on either side of the highway.
They said that the heavy vehicles would be allowed to ply on the highway after assessing the road and traffic situation on Friday.
The traffic officials advised the passenger vehicle operators, commuters, and people not to undertake journeys on the highway during night hours due to apprehensions of shooting tones between Ramban and Banihal.
“Prefer journey on the highway during day time only,” they said.
