Srinagar-Jammu NH open for 2-way traffic
Ramban, Dec 31: The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway on Tuesday remained open for two-way traffic of Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) and heavy vehicles on Tuesday, traffic authorities said.
They said that subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMVs and heavy vehicles would be allowed to ply on both sides of the highway on Wednesday.
Earlier, traffic authorities said that while the highway remained open during the day on Tuesday, traffic movement remained slow due to the breakdown of a few heavy vehicles and single-lane and poor conditions of the road stretch at Dalwass, Mehar Cafeteria, and between Maroog and Kishtwari Pathar areas of Ramban.
They said that despite the slow movement, hundreds of vehicles crossed the Chenani-Nashri and Banihal-Qazigund tunnels till late evening.
Traffic officials at Traffic Control Unit (TCU) Ramban late Wednesday evening said that the highway was open for two-way traffic.
Meanwhile, the Traffic Department issued a fresh advisory for Wednesday stating that subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMVs and heavy vehicles would be allowed to ply on both sides of the highway.
The traffic authorities advised the commuters, passengers, and LMV operators not to undertake journeys on the highway during the night hours due to apprehension of shooting stones between the Ramban and Banihal sectors.
They also advised the commuters and drivers to avoid unnecessary halts between the Ramban and Banihal sectors, especially near landslide and shooting-stone-prone areas.
Meanwhile, Kishtwar-Anantnag National Highway 244 remained closed for the fourth consecutive day due to snow accumulation at Sinthan Top and other nearby areas.
