Ramban, May 12: The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remained open for two-way traffic of Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) and one-way traffic of heavy vehicles for Kashmir on Sunday.

Traffic officials in Ramban said, “The highway remained open but the traffic movement remained slow due to the breakdown of a few heavy vehicles; foot-movement of nomads with live-stock; single lane road stretches at Dalwass, Mehar, Cafeteria, Panthial, Magarkote, Nachlana, Gangroo, Shalgari and other places besides poor road surface conditions at many places between Nashri and Banihal on Sunday.”

They said, “LMVs are plying on both sides of the highway but heavy vehicles are heading towards Kashmir at a slow pace between Nashri and Banihal due to poor road conditions.”

“Traffic is moving at a slow pace due to single-lane and slippery road conditions at Dalwass, Mehar, Seri, Panthial, Nagarkot, Hingni, Gangroo, Kishtwari-Pathar and other places,” officials said.

They advised commuters to follow lane discipline, as overtaking would lead to congestion.

Meanwhile, traffic authorities issued a fresh advisory for Monday stating that subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMVs would be allowed to ply on either side of the highway.

“Heavy vehicles would be allowed to ply towards Jammu after assessing the traffic situation on the highway on Monday morning,” officials said.
