Srinagar–Jammu NH open for 2-way light traffic
Ramban, Nov 6: The Srinagar–Jammu National Highway (NH-44) remained open for two-way traffic of passenger, light, and medium vehicles, while one-way movement of heavy vehicles was allowed towards Jammu on Thursday.
Traffic authorities said that NH-44 would remain open on Friday as well, permitting two-way movement of light and medium vehicles and one-way movement of heavy vehicles towards Kashmir.
Officials monitoring vehicular movement in Ramban said that hundreds of light and medium vehicles plied smoothly in both directions between Jammu and Srinagar throughout the day, though movement remained slow at several stretches due to single-lane conditions at Balli Nullah, Dewal, Nashri–Dalwass, Maroog, and Kishtwari Pattar.
They added that the breakdown of a few heavy vehicles and the on-foot movement of nomadic families with livestock towards Jammu also caused temporary congestion at multiple points.
Meanwhile, Kishtwar–Sinthantop–Anantnag National Highway (NH-244) remained closed for the second consecutive day due to accumulation of snow, traffic officials said.
The traffic department has issued a fresh advisory for Friday, stating that—subject to fair weather and good road conditions—light and medium vehicles will be allowed to ply from both ends, while heavy vehicles will be permitted to move towards Kashmir.
Commuters and drivers have been advised to maintain lane discipline, avoid overtaking or wrong-lane driving, and follow traffic advisories strictly to ensure smooth movement on the highway.
