Ramban, Aug 12: Despite light rain that lashed Udhampur and Banihal sectors, the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remained open for two-way traffic of Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) and one-way traffic of heavy vehicles for Jammu on Tuesday.

Traffic authorities said that, subject to fair weather and good road conditions, passenger LMVs would be allowed to ply on either side of the highway towards Srinagar and Jammu on Wednesday.

They advised passengers and LMV operators to undertake journeys on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway during the daytime as heavy vehicles and load carriers are plying at night hours and there is apprehension of landslides and shooting stones due to the rainy season between the Ramban and Banihal sectors.

Earlier, traffic authorities said that traffic movement remained slow due to ongoing four-lane construction works at different places between Nashri and Banihal.

They said that the traffic movement remained slow due to the breakdown of a few vehicles and four-lane construction work on the Nashri-Dalwass and the Maroog and Kishtwari Pathar stretch between Nashri and Banihal sectors.

Meanwhile, the J&K Traffic Department issued a fresh advisory for Wednesday stating that, subject to fair weather and good road conditions, passenger LMVs would be allowed to ply on either side of the highway towards Srinagar and Jammu.

They said heavy vehicles would be allowed to ply towards Kashmir from Jakhani, Udhampur, on Wednesday.

Traffic authorities advised the passengers and LMV operators to undertake journeys on the highway during the daytime due to apprehension of landslides and shooting stones between the Ramban and Banihal sectors.

Commuters have been advised to avoid unnecessary haltage between Ramban and Banihal, especially near landslides and shooting-stone prone areas.
