Ramban, June 28: The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remained open for two-way traffic of Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) and one-way traffic of heavy vehicles for Kashmir on Friday.

The traffic authorities said that the movement of traffic remained slow between Nashri and Banihal sectors due to the breakdown of a few heavy vehicles, the single-lane road stretches at Dalwass, Mehar Cafeteria, and between Maroog and Kishtwar Pathar areas passing through Ramban district.

Traffic officials monitoring traffic regulations said that despite slow traffic movement, hundreds of LMVs and heavy vehicles crossed the Nashri and Banihal tunnels till late Friday evening.

They said the highway was open and vehicles were heading towards their respective destinations in Kashmir and Jammu.

Traffic authorities advised the passenger vehicle operators and commuters not to undertake journeys on the highway during night hours due to apprehensions of shooting stones between the Ramban and Banihal sectors.

Meanwhile, traffic authorities said, subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMVs would be allowed to ply on either side of the highway on Saturday.

They said the cut-off timing for Srinagar bound passenger LMVs has been fixed from 7 am to 12 noon from Nagrota, Jammu, and 8 am to 1 pm from Jakhani, Udhampur.

The traffic authorities said that the cut-off timing for Jammu-bound LMVs has been fixed from 11:30 am to 2 pm from Qazigund Kashmir.

They said heavy vehicles would be allowed towards Jammu from Qazigund, Kashmir, after 7 pm on Saturday.
