Srinagar-Jammu NH-44 open for 2-way traffic
Ramban, Mar 1: The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway (NH-44) remained open for two-way traffic on Sunday, allowing the movement of light, medium, and heavy vehicles, authorities said.
However, vehicular movement was slow at several stretches between Maroog and Kishtwari Pather.
Officials attributed the delays to single-lane sections, ongoing four-laning construction between Ramban and Banihal, and the occasional breakdown of heavy vehicles.
Despite these bottlenecks, hundreds of private cars and passenger vehicles successfully navigated the route in both directions. At the time of reporting, the highway witnessed a steady flow of vehicles, predominantly load carriers, crossing the Ramban-Banihal sector.
The Traffic Department has issued a fresh advisory confirming that, subject to fair weather and favorable road conditions, NH-44 will remain open for all vehicle categories in both directions on Monday.
Authorities advised passengers and light motor vehicle (LMV) operators to travel only during daylight hours, citing the risks of shooting stones, landslides, and construction hazards at night. Commuters are strongly urged to verify the latest road status with Traffic Control Units in Jammu, Srinagar, Udhampur, or Ramban before beginning their journey.
Meanwhile, the Kishtwar-Sinthan Top-Anantnag route (NH-244) remains closed due to heavy snow accumulation over the past several weeks.
