Srinagar-Jammu National Highway | Vehicular traffic movement disrupted for 3 hours at Khouni Nallah Bridge
Ramban, Apr 12: Vehicular traffic movement was disrupted at Khouni Nallah Bridge on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway for nearly three hours today.
Traffic officials said that the disruption was caused due to the rolling of rocks and stones from a hillock at Khouni Nallah bridge between Ramban and Ramsu on Friday afternoon. The NHAI immediately pressed its men and machinery into service to clear the road.
They said it took them two hours and 50 minutes to clear the accumulated landslide and stones and traffic was restored late Friday afternoon.
Traffic officials said National Highway remained open for two-way traffic of passenger light medium vehicles and one-way traffic of heavy vehicles. But the movement of traffic remained slow due to the narrow carriageway at the mud and landslide-affected Dalwass, Mehad-Cafeteria, Panthyal, Hingni, Gangroo, Nachlana, Kishtwari Pathar and poor road surface conditions at several places and due to the breakdown of four heavy vehicles between Nashri and Banihal sectors on Friday.
They said hundreds of light medium passenger and heavy vehicles crossed the Nashri-Banihal sector for their respective destinations till late this evening.
Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir traffic police department issued a fresh advisory for Saturday stating that subject to fair weather and road conditions passenger light-medium vehicles will be allowed on both sides whereas heavy vehicles would be allowed to ply in a regulated manner.
