Srinagar-Jammu National Highway to remain shut today

Ramban, May 20: Vehicular traffic will remain suspended on Srinagar Jammu National Highway (NH-44), on Tuesday.

It was not disclosed in the advisory issued by the traffic department for what purpose vehicular traffic was stopped at Nagrota, Jammu, Udhampur, Qazigund, Kashmir and it would remain suspended on Tuesday. However, an official from civil administration said the Srinagar Jammu National Highway will remain shut for necessary repair and maintenance work on Tuesday.

Traffic authorities said no movement of any kind of vehicle including vehicles carrying fresh "perishable/livestock/security forces shall be allowed on either side of NH-44" on Tuesday.

Traffic officials said all vehicular traffic movement for Kashmir, Patnitop, Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, and Gool Banihal was suspended from Monday 5 pm, at Nagrota, Jammu and 6 pm, at Traffic check post Jakhani, Udhampur. Similarly, all the Jammu Banihal, Ramban, Doda-Kishtwar, and Udhampur bound traffic was suspended from 6 pm, Monday, at Qazigund, Kashmir.

However light, medium and heavy vehicles between Udhampur and Qazigund are heading towards their respective destinations in Srinagar and Jammu. They said road traffic between Udhampur and Qazigund is being cleared.

SSP Traffic National Highway Ramban, Rohit Baskotra said no light, medium or heavy vehicle except vehicles carrying patients and medical emergencies will be allowed to ply on NH-44, between Udhampur and Banihal and vice versa on Tuesday. He said vehicular traffic on NH-44, would remain suspended due to multitasking works.

SSP further advised commuters and travellers to keep traffic dry day in mind to plan their journeys accordingly.

An officer from the administration wishing not to quote his name said that for undertaking necessary maintenance works on NH-44 by the contractor companies of NHAI, Tuesday has been declared as a traffic dry day between Udhampur and Qazigund.

Meanwhile, traffic congestion was witnessed at many places between Nashri and Banihal sectors till late Monday evening.
