Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remains open for traffic

They said heavy vehicles from Qaziqund, Kashmir are still heading towards Jammu in a regulated manner.

Ramban, July 17: Traffic authorities said today that National Highway 44 remained open but traffic movement was slow due to the breakdown of few heavy vehicles and due to single-lane road stretches on the highway.

They further said that Srinagar Jammu National Highway will remain open for two-way traffic of light medium vehicles, and one-way traffic of heavy vehicles on Thursday.

Traffic authorities said subject to fair weather and good road conditions, light-medium vehicles carrying Amarnath Yatra pilgrims would be allowed to ply on either side of NH-44 on Thursday. They said heavy vehicles would be allowed to move towards Kashmir on Thursday afternoon or evening.

They further said in view of ongoing Amarnath Yatra and in order to provide hassle free movement of trucks carrying fresh, perishable goods on NH-44, administration has decided tankers including petrol, diesel, LPG, and all empty trucks engaged for ferrying FCI ration or any other vehicle loaded or empty upto 10 tyres shall use only Mughal Road while returning to Jammu. Traffic officials monitoring traffic regulations said National Highway 44 remained open for two-way traffic of light medium vehicles and one way traffic of Heavy vehicles for Jammu.
