Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remains open
Ramban, June 7: The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remained open for two-way traffic of light medium passenger vehicles and one-way traffic of heavy vehicles for Kashmir on Friday, traffic authorities said.
They said the National Highway had remained closed for seven hours on Thursday night due to road maintenance works. However, it was re-opened for scheduled traffic on Friday morning.
Traffic officials said National Highway remained open. However they said vehicular traffic movement remained slow due to the breakdown of a few heavy vehicles, on-foot movement of nomad families with their livestock and due to single-lane road stretches at Dalwass, Mehar Cafeteria, Panthyal, Magarkote, Shalgari, Gangroo, Nachlana besides poor road surface conditions at many places between Nashri and Banihal.
They said earlier on Thursday night the National Highway remained blocked for a few hours due to road repair works.
Meanwhile, traffic Police headquarters issued a fresh advisory for Saturday stating that subject to fair weather and good road conditions light-medium vehicles would be allowed to ply on either side whereas heavy vehicles would be allowed to ply towards Jammu from Qazigund Kashmir after assessing the road and traffic situation on highway on Saturday.
Traffic authorities once again advised passenger vehicle operators, and commuters not to undertake journeys on National Highway during the night hours due to apprehensions of shooting stones between Ramban and Banihal sectors.
Traffic authorities further informed that the Srinagar Jammu National Highway is to remain closed on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday for every type of traffic movement for scheduled road repair works between Nashri and Banihal in Rambandistrict.
They said no Srinagar-bound vehicle would be allowed to move after 5 pm, Saturday from Nagrota Jammu and after 6 pm, from Udhampur.
Similarly, no Jammu-bound traffic will be allowed to move from Qazigund, Kashmir after 6 pm, on Saturday.
